Equine Physiotherapy

Advanced equine physiotherapy across the South West — committed, detail-focused care for rehabilitation, performance and long-term wellbeing

Excellence in Equine Physiotherapy

Hi - I'm Ceola

I provide advanced, evidence-informed equine physiotherapy across the South West, supporting horses in optimising movement, musculoskeletal health, and overall wellbeing. I have a strong interest in performance-focused physiotherapy, while also offering preventative care and rehabilitation following injury or surgery.

My approach combines meticulous assessment, close liaison with veterinary and other professionals, and highly individualised exercise and conditioning programmes tailored to each horse’s needs.

Consultations allow ample time for detailed assessment, targeted hands-on therapy, and the development of a structured plan to optimise movement, address dysfunction, and support ongoing musculoskeletal health.

Following each session, you receive a comprehensive report outlining findings, treatment provided, and a progressive programme to maintain and improve mobility, strength, and wellbeing. Where appropriate, I liaise directly with your veterinary surgeon and other professionals to ensure a fully integrated, collaborative approach to care.

As a University Lecturer I strive for evidence based, gold-standard care in all aspects of my work. I pride myself on being precise, compassionate, and focused on long-term health, resilience, and quality of life.

What to Expect - Equine

What to Expect from Your Equine Physiotherapy Consultation

Initial Information Gathering

Before your appointment, I gather detailed background information, including medical history, previous injuries, surgeries, workload, and relevant management factors. Where possible, I also request recent videos of your horse moving, which I review prior to the visit to begin forming an initial clinical impression.

Where appropriate, I liaise with your veterinary surgeon and other professionals involved in your horse’s care to ensure a full and accurate clinical picture.

Initial Consultation

During the in-person consultation, we review your horse’s history and discuss any current concerns or performance goals. A thorough assessment is then carried out, evaluating posture, movement, joint range of motion, and the condition of the musculature and fascia to identify areas of restriction, compensation, or dysfunction.

Tailored Treatment and Exercise Plan

Following assessment, an individually tailored treatment is provided. A significant focus is placed on hands-on manual therapy — including massage, myofascial release, and targeted soft tissue techniques — to reduce muscular tension, improve tissue quality, and enhance movement capacity. Where clinically indicated, appropriate electrotherapeutic modalities, such as LASER therapy, may also be applied to support pain reduction and tissue healing.

During the session, a targeted rehabilitation or conditioning programme is developed, designed specifically for your horse to encourage correct movement patterns, promote recovery where needed, and build appropriate strength and stability.

Reporting and Vet Liaison

A comprehensive report summarising the assessment findings, treatment provided, and recommended programme is sent to you and, if desired, your veterinary surgeon or other professionals involved in your horse’s care. I liaise directly with your vet when required to ensure a coordinated, integrated approach.
